Music

Variety and opportunity

Girls at adcote have an hour a week of music in Key Stage 3 and the Junior School. In these lessons girls will play a range of percussion instruments, compose melodies, recognise intruments and sing a variety of songs, as well as listen to and appreciate music from around the world. GCSE music is a popular and successful option, which has recently enjoyed a 100% pass rate at grades A-C.

Many girls take instrumental music lessons with our team of visiting peripatetic teachers. Instruments being taught include vioin, cello, piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, guitar and percussion. Singing is also very popular. Girls are entered for Associated Board examinations, and have a 100% pass rate.

The choir is open to all pupils without an audition. They meet once a week to prepare a wide repertoire from Folk, Art, Gospel, Opera, Musical Theatre and Contempory Ballads. The choir perform at many school functions and concerts, including the Christmas Carol Service, the Summer Fete and Speech Day.

The music department organise termly concerts for performers to demonstrate their achievements. The annual house music competition gives all of the girls that want it an opportunity to perform solo or in a small group. The house songs involve everybody and are usually choreographed by the girls for maximum impact. Cups are awarded for Excellence in Performing, Most Promising Pupil and Best Junior Performer.
