Exciting Extensions
Gifted and talented children also need support and encouragement to make progress at their pace. Adcote’s Bright Sparks Group meet once a week to, for example, delve into literature, penetrate algebra, explore genes or neutrons in a way that the core curriculum cannot do.
Recent Bright Sparks groups have covered areas of Maths, Biology, Gymnastics, English, Puzzles and Rocket Building. A year 10 group enter the Young Enterprise competition. Skills in Critical Thinking are developed alongside gifted and talented pupils from other local schools. The school also enters pupils for all rounds of the UK Mathematics Trust Maths Challenge, and in 2007 entered its first team in the Team Mathematics Challenge.
