Adcote in the Community

Strong Links
Adcote is proud of its strong links with the community. The local vicar is Chaplain to the School and boarders worship regularly at the parish church. Ministers from a range of other local churches also contribute to our assemblies. We are proud of our good relationships with other schools in the area. Local school children are invited to special events such as the Christmas Concert. Gifted and talented children from a number of local schools have joined Adcote girls to take a course in Critical Thinking.
When the Chairman of the local Parish Council asked Adcote to create a new website, the school’s Web Club were only too keen to help. The girls, who are all aged between 12 and 16 years, used their skills in basic HTML programming, webauthoring, photo and graphics editing to build the site from scratch. Not content with simply using the existing material they added new sections including a picture gallery and approached local businesses to offer them free advertising.
Adcote girls are also keen to support local and national charities. Each year the juniors coordinate the Operation Christmas Child collection to send Christmas presents to needy children in Eastern Europe. The annual harvest festival service builds links with Derwen College, a local school for people with mental and physical difficulties. The Girls also support Goodwill children's homes in Southern India, (for more information see www.goodwillhomes.org.uk) as well as participating enthusiastically in events such as Comic Relief and Children in Need.
The school and its surroundings provide the perfect environment for girls to enjoy their studies here but we believe it’s important to share them with as many people as we can. Through English Heritage or as part of the National Gardens Scheme, the school and its grounds, which feature a wide variety of fine trees, walled gardens and colourful borders, are regularly open to the public.
Each year the school stages an open air Grand Orchestral Concert in the school grounds when audiences can have a pre-performance picnic, wander around the gardens and enjoy a wonderful evening’s musical entertainment with a magnificent firework finale. The Great Hall is frequently used as a venue for concerts and recitals and regularly plays host to a number of celebrity performers.
