Shropshire's Boarding School for Girls

Special Arrangements for Forces Families

Home away from home

Kim-Michelle Brown is one of several girls at Adcote whose parents are in the armed forces. Like other boarders at Adcote Kim-Michelle usually travels to see her family during the school holidays. Whilst their parents are moved around the world, the girls can enjoy the close knit family atmosphere of boarding life at Adcote. Speaking only German until she was five years old, today Kim-Michelle’s English is excellent and she admits it’s becoming increasingly difficult to remember her ‘native’ language.

"I’ve been at Adcote for three years now and am very happy here. Because it’s an old school all the rooms are full of character and the gardens are great for exploring. There are trips to interesting places nearly every weekend and we get to do lots of different things."

"I really like boarding and being able to talk to friends whose fathers are also in the forces makes a big difference - especially when you’re away from home. I do miss my friends and family in Germany, but I like the fact that I am learning to do things for myself. It’s good to be independent and I find I have a lot more confidence than when I first came."

Every child is different and choosing the right school is one of the most important decisions a parent has to make – which is why we are always delighted to invite prospective parents to visit the school so they can meet the staff, talk to the girls and see just how special Adcote is for themselves.

To arrange a visit please contact the School Secretary on 01939 260202.
