History

The History of Adcote
Adcote School stands in 27 acres of landscaped parkland. The Grade 1 listed building was originally the home of Rebecca Darby, a close relative of Abraham Darby, the well known industrialist who built the first Iron Bridge. Now the spacious upstairs bedrooms are dormitories for boarders, with marvellous views of the gardens and surrounding countryside.

Elsewhere in the main house are classrooms and specialist areas such as the ICT suite, Great Hall, Library/Resources Centre and Small Hall. The original stable and coach houses have been imaginatively converted into science laboratories, language rooms and the Junior School. Originally founded in 1907, Adcote is rich in tradition and history, but combines this with a forward-thinking progressive approach to education that develops its pupils into well-rounded individuals with the confidence to succeed.
Centenary
Last year Adcote celebrated its centenary, and looks forward to a bright future. The photograph below shows the schools founder, Mrs Amy Gough, with her pupils and staff in 1912.
