ADCOTE GIRLS RAISE MONEY FOR WAR HEROES

Following their annual open garden and fete, Adcote School for Girls has raised over £850 for the charity 'Help for Heroes'.

The inspiration for the project came after the school, which educates many girls from service families, hosted a military reception organised by Shrewsbury MP, Daniel Kawczynski, earlier this year. Mr Kawczynski was determined to honour service men and women who have served on recent operations abroad and it was following his example that the school decided to donate money from this year's event to Help for Heroes.

Head Teacher, Ryan Jervis said "It was marvellous to see the service personnel in the school and some of girls met up with people their parents had served with.  In one case a sixth former met a soldier who had been trained by her father.

"We decided that we could offer more support to the brave men and women who are putting their lives on the line in Iraq and Afghanistan and came up with the idea of giving this year's garden open day and fete money to the Help for Heroes charity."

On the day visitors were able to the beautiful gardens and take part in pony rides and traditional games. School governor Ian Galliers brought along several of the military vehicles from his impressive collection and visitors enjoyed the chance to have a ride in a tank. Cream teas, strawberries, local produce and arts and crafts were also on sale.
