We aim for the very best education for all our girls whatever their ability. Our curriculum is based upon getting the very best learning opportunities for all; something that we succeed in by making the teaching exciting and engaging. Classes are small which enables us to ensure that the work set is both stretching for the pupil but achievable.
In the Primary Years (3-6) we focus on Key Stage 2 work with English, Maths, Science, History, and Geography covered by specialist Primary teachers. Sports, PSHE, ICT, Textiles, Spanish, Art, Music and Drama are taken by members of the senior teaching staff, bringing specialism to their subject that the girls really benefit from.
As the pupils move into the Key Stage 3 area of education, they will have the full remit of lessons. Small class sizes are maintained, but they will also benefit from already knowing a number of the teaching staff and the classrooms they will be in taught in. The full remit of lessons will be provided plus some additional
We ensure a full breadth and immersive education for all girls ensuring that our cross-curricular lessons and activities (such as field trips) lead to the pupils taking an active part in their learning.
CLEAR Learning lies at the heart of what we do. It reflects the culture of our school, and is the catalyst for the core values that we hone during the time the girls are with us.
In the Prep area, we celebrate all aspects of CLEAR, within all aspects of school life. This can be in the classroom or during activities. We have various Challenge and CLEAR days, where the girls will be able to take part in activities and work as a team, interacting with different age groups. Girls can also earn awards with stars (primary) and merits (Years 7 and 8). Certificates are also awarded during the weekly Prep School Assembly.
Access to ICT and understanding the modern suite of communications tools at our fingertips is a crucial part of life now. We are pleased that Adcote is part of the Google Workspace for Education system. We actively use the Google suite of programmes both as a communication tool and within the classroom, providing pupils and staff with the ability to work efficiently and smoothly, key skills for the pupils going forward.
We have three School Houses: Glenmore, Haughton and Innage. Each girl will be placed in a House upon arrival, and will be encouraged to take part in the various House activities we host including the perennial favourite, Sports Day, through to various House Music and Spelling Bee, amongst others. They will also earn House points through the star / merit system.
We pride ourselves in the Prep School of being a caring and nurturing school. We have an open door policy for all parents and pupils. We will always make time to listen and discuss, as we believe that this is the key to understanding and consideration of one another.
We have an active and enthusiastic approach to the Performing Arts at Adcote. The pupils have a variety of opportunities to take part and build confidence through performance in both non- and competitive scenarios. There are annual Christmas productions within the Prep School plus various other opportunities to perform throughout the year including taking the LAMDA award. The pupils have various choral groups they can join, plus the option of music lessons in everything from singing to piano to a variety of musical instruments. We also take part in various local and national competitions with the pupils having won many trophies for the cabinet!
