Home away from home

Boarding at Adcote is an extremely attractive and popular choice for service parents and children. At Adcote, for many years we have welcomed a number of girls who join us from Forces’ families.

We have a great deal of experience of the particular needs of children whose parents may have to move frequently, perhaps at short notice and spend much of their time overseas. Like other boarders at Adcote they usually travel to see their families during the school holidays. Whilst their parents are moved around the world, the girls can enjoy the close knit family atmosphere of boarding life at Adcote.

There are large numbers of boarders at Adcote School and most are full boarders. Thus, the weekends are full and vibrant, and the girls are always busy. Ensuring continuity of education is a high priority.  At Adcote, we provide boarding places through to the Sixth Form and so offer seamless continuity from the age of 8 to 18 years.

“I’ve been at Adcote for three years now and am very happy here. Because it’s an old school all the rooms are full of character and the gardens are great for exploring. There are trips to interesting places nearly every weekend and we get to do lots of different things. I really like boarding and being able to talk to friends whose fathers are also in the forces makes a big difference – especially when you’re away from home. I do miss my friends and family in Germany, but I like the fact that I am learning to do things for myself. It’s good to be independent and I find I have a lot more confidence than when I first came.”
