U14s and U16s vs Ellesmere College – Hockey Report

Posted: 25th November 2016

And it’s goodbye from roving reporter Harps Randhawa…we are very sad to lose her!

RESULTS: U14s 4 – 0, with Amelia Wojnar rightly receiving Player of the Match.

U16s 2 – 2, with Scarlett Ford receiving Player of the Match.

Miss H Randhawa reports…

I have never felt so nervous during a match. Would I be stepping down from my role in Adcote PE department with further losses, or could these girls provide a great sending off?

With our U14s in position, the subs get comfortable and so we begin.

The girls clear the ball in defence with some ease and push forward with Amelia bossing the midfield and Georgia making runs in and around their shooting D. Early indications are that we have strength in the squad to win this;

let’s use the width girls!

A sideways glance over to the U16s to see Millie take a huge tumble as their player goes in for a tackle. We gain a penalty corner but little comes of it; keep going girls. Back to the U14s who remain solid in defence thanks to Amira, Claudia and Izzy, who

look to get the ball to our midfield players. But wait – there’s a break in play in the U16s game. Evie crosses it in and the sheer determination of Millie proves too much for their defence. Adcote score and it’s 2 – 0 (thanks to an earlier goal by Scarlett).

More of the same again then girls?! A little spring in my step by now and a change of gear for the U14s.

Attack after attack, it was only matter of time. Amelia goes on a run and takes a shot from just inside the D. it’s 1 – 0, to Adcote, with a great individual goal and just what they needed to gain confidence. We continue to

attack and a simple cross from Amelia to Gabriela (her debut goal for the team) for an easy tap in from the back post. 2 – 0 to Adcote.

In the U16s game, Ellesmere have managed to get a goal back. The team in good spirits even though Millie is feeling peaky. True grit and determination that’s what I like to see; I’m so proud. Mae bossing in defence, smiles

with pride as I say ‘you are having a great game’.

The third quarter gets under way for both teams. Undeterred by the knock to the head, Georgia is flying down the wing and making their defence work hard; can we get on the end of her crosses? Claudia and Amelia now in sync

to move the ball around the pitch to Paula and Georgia. Yes we score again, well done Georgia and moments later Paula (her debut goal) makes it 4 – 0.

The U16s are level. Ellesmere seem to have changed their game plan and seemed to have gained in strength. Let’s get players behind the ball and defend and go for the draw; with only 10 minutes to hold on, I knew they could

do it.

Over at the U14s, Claudia is now in an unfamiliar role as a forward and Carlota in defence, with panic stricken faces! It’s fine girls, have belief! Lots of huffing and puffing, with so many chances missed as they go on the

attack. Mariam and Rebecca are called on to help the team from conceding.

Great work girls. You have given me a great send off. Thank you so much – I take away so many good memories.
