It was a particularly uplifting speech day this year, with celebrations all round and some astounding achievements – we have girls here who are the very best in the country in Athletics and Gymnastics, in particular – and our growing reputation in Music, thanks to the lively and inspirational Mr Bunn, was evidenced by the truly engaging and first class choral and solo performances at speech day itself.
Our head Diane Browne summed it up when she addressed our girls: “We are all very proud you. I boast about you to anyone who will listen. You are such a very special group of girls. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, team spirit, determination, enthusiasm and good humour are a daily delight.”
Mrs Browne gave an overview of the mind-boggling activities, overseas trips, author visits, bushcraft sessions and outward bound expeditions enjoyed by the girls during the year. She also announced our new head girl for 2017/18 as Marta Marcheluk and two deputies as Elena Roberts and Daphne Wong. Head of Adcote Lower School will be Lydia Davies and her Deputy will be Kiera Diavati.
Mrs Browne was followed by our guest speaker Dr Jill Lees, MCMI Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability across E.ON Renewables globally, who spoke about the importance of instilling leadership and management skills in young women from an early age – and very much recommended to our girls that they take up the very progressive opportunity being offered here at Adcote from next year – to study for a CMI (Chartered Management Institute) qualification (Level 2&3) within school.
Our favourite moment from speech day, however, was when outgoing head girl Hannah Spalding revealed that sixth formers had managed to repaint the shed purple (instead of green) without any of the teachers realising and also make cheese from scratch during an English lesson.
