The Big First Aid Lesson Live

Posted: 6th November 2017

On Friday, Year 7 pupils joined thousands of students across the country taking part in the St John Ambulance ‘Big First Aid Lesson’ which was streamed live to schools.  The lesson was hosted by television star Reece Buttery, well-known for his roles in the BBC Christmas adaptation of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny, CBBC’s The Dumping Ground and The Secret Life of Boys.  Adcote has previously joined the lesson live and this year the theme was Bonfire Night and how to deal with fireworks-related injuries.  Students observed common real-life first aid situations and demonstrations of relevant first aid techniques.

Pupils learned the key steps in treating a choking person, how to treat burns and what they should do in an emergency.  The show included live demonstrations, real life stories, interactive quizzes and pupils particularly enjoyed the practical elements where they go to practice how to treat a choking casualty.  The Year 7’s thoroughly enjoyed participating in this and hopefully it has given them the confidence to use life-saving skills.  Year 7 pupil Hattie Candler said, “I really enjoyed doing the activities and watching everyone have fun on the activities.  It will help me in later life.”  Ellie-Mae Smith “loved doing the activities and being able to participate.”
