GB Athlete puts Adcote girls through their paces

Posted: 8th May 2018

Students got an inspirational visit from Team GB and Wales athlete Adele Nicoll this week.

Adele, who clinched a gold medal in the U20 and U23 England Championships for shot and is breaking Welsh records, put girls through their paces in a sponsored circuit before fielding questions.

During the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Adele, a member of the premier Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club, ran through her hometown of Welshpool. She brought along the Olympic Torch for our excited girls to see and hold.

Adele’s motto is: “Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement”. She is the Welsh national U23 record-holder and is World Youth and European Junior finalist. The senior British record is now firmly in her sights.

The girls found her story very inspiring and will now be following Adele’s athletics career as it develops. She hopes to compete in the next Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

A very enjoyable day was had by all!
