Our very own Shetland pony racing legend Kinvara Garner has gone out in a blaze of glory at Olympia and the Liverpool International Horse Shows.
At the ripe old age of 14, Kinvara (Year 9) has now outgrown Shetlands and will retire after an illustrious career. It was not so bad to finish with two wins at Olympia, just before Christmas and another win at the Liverpool International Horse Show last week.
Kinvara played the part of Princess Elizabeth where she rode in the Queen 90th Birthday Celebrations at Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2016 and has become a horse-racing junior celebrity, thanks to her dominance of the Shetland Pony Grand Nationals over the past three years.
“It was quite emotional doing it for the last time,” Kinvara admitted. “I want to go on to pony racing now to do more flat racing and I obviously will keep up my showing.”
It is clear that she won’t stay out of the limelight for long; she was recently dubbed a ‘jockey of the future’ by Channel 4 Racing presenters Nick Luck and Mick Fitzgerald.
