ADCOTE’s gym squad swept the board, claiming all three top girls’ event prizes at the 14th ISA National Gymnastics Competition this Sunday – held in our very own sports hall!
Under the dedicated and watchful eye of coach Lisa Nixson, our girls have worked hard to develop a formidable national reputation over the past three years and this year, we were honoured to host the prestigious national event.
True to form, the Adcote Girls U11 and U9 teams scooped first places in the team events, the individual events and the group sequences. Adcote gym squad members also claimed 4th and 5th individual places in the U9s and 2nd, 4th and 6th places in the U11s.
The prizes come in the same week that Adcote’s gymnastics squad was awarded the Derek Hayward Award for the most successful Shropshire Primary School Team, presented by Shropshire Schools’ Sports and Athletics Association.
Coach Lisa Nixson said:
“We are so proud of all of our girls. The atmosphere was incredible on the day and their sportsmanship, in victory, was second to none. They were gracious and beautifully behaved – there wasn’t a glimmer of gloating in sight, in spite of our clean up!
The teamwork and discipline of gymnastics and seeing the results of hard work, sets our girls up wonderfully well to succeed in the wider world. Today’s results are testament to a committed attitude here in school to help our girls become the very best versions of themselves. This is the first time the school has hosted the event. The atmosphere was electrifying and it was a great success.”
Emilia Moxley, U9 champion (individual event), said:
“I’m so happy we won. The day was really exciting.”
Darcy Fletcher, U11 champion, said,
“I wasn’t expecting it and couldn’t stop smiling. I felt really happy and overwhelmed.”

We have received glowing praise from schools around the country who competed on Sunday.

“We had a great weekend and a brilliant Sunday. Thank you to all involved at Adcote.”
Louise Broom, from Wilmslow Prep in Cheshire, said:
“A huge thank you for a great day of gymnastics. It was our first time and won’t be our last . The girls loved it. Much to go away and work on.”
Sarah Richards, Dodderhill School, Droitwich, Worcestershire, said:
“I just wanted to express my thanks and gratitude for the superb competition we attended yesterday. It was well organised and efficient and I felt very welcomed by all involved at my first National level competition. The girls enjoyed the day and the facilities we had to warm up in and to use for the day were really lovely, a credit to the school and your team. Please pass on my school’s congratulations to all staff and pupils from Adcote School that were involved yesterday and beforehand too, it doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Founder of the National ISA Gymnastics Competition June Walden, said: “I am thrilled that Adcote School took up the challenge to host the Championships this year. As organiser, Louise Hudson and her team did an excellent job to accommodate a record number of schools, setting a professional, but friendly atmosphere where both newcomers and those who have competed for years were able to flourish. It was a brilliant day.”
The competition saw more than 200 boys and girls from 15 different schools across the UK competing for individual and team awards in the U11 and U9 age categories.
All gymnasts had to perform in four disciplines, including set vault, voluntary vault, set floor and voluntary floor. There were also Group Sequences for U11 and U9 girls, separate from the girls’ team competition.
