Our golden girls – big medal haul at MISGA Championships

Posted: 8th May 2018

Adcote’s talented young gymnasts have picked up another big haul of gold, silver and bronze medals, this time at the two-day Midlands Independent Schools Gymnastics Championships held in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Our U11 Advanced Team came out top to become the MISGA champions for the fourth year running. It was gold too for our U11 Novice 2’s and many of our girls won individual medals.

It was a sparkling gold for Olivia Dyer in the U11 individual Advanced competition. Maddie Rao achieved a highly commendable individual 6th place with birthday girl Lily Hayward and Isibeal Francis just out of the medals in 7th place. The rest of the team Seren Blackwell and Maddie Stone all performed brilliantly, displaying a real strength and depth in the team.

Amazing results for our U11 Novice 2’s who won team Gold by 4.5 marks and took medals in the individual competition – a gold for Isabella Rizzo, silver for Poppy Livermore and bronze for Georgina Pilkington-Foster and Millie Plumb. Grace Edwards made up a very strong team and individually came 7th in a large field.

Isabella scored the highest set floor of the day with 9.8 out of 10 and was honoured by being selected to perform it at the medal presentation.

And it was congratulations too to our U9 Advanced gym team who delivered their best performance of the season and consolidated their experience to achieve silver position overall. The team included Holly, Honor, Francesca, Louisa and Maddie Wright who also gained a 4th place individually.

Mia Dyfnallt was invited to join the Stamford Open Advanced Team so as not to miss out, as Adcote was unable to enter a full team in this category due to other sporting commitments. Mia did Adcote proud by gaining 4th equal place individually and helping the team win Gold overall.

“Mia’s hard work in the gym has paid off as she scored her best yet handspring vault and successfully performed an aerial cartwheel on the floor,” said Adcote gymnastics coach Lisa Nixson.

“It was the last competition for the season and as always I was very proud of how all the girls upped their levels on the day with well deserved placings. It’s great to see that the dedicated work they have put in has again made them all champions.

“Thank to the parents also for their commitment and support. We are now looking forward to improving over the next term and learning some new tricks!”

Disciplines in the competition included set floor and voluntary vault for novice teams and voluntary floor and voluntary vault for advanced groups.
