Adcote School has had a lot to shout about in recent months after winning a major national award and being shortlisted as a finalist for two other prestigious national accolades.
The school has come along way in the past three years and now the publication of new government performance tables for secondary schools has given Adcote another boost.
The league table scores for measuring student academic progress show that pupils at the non-selective girls’ school consistently achieve higher than expected results when compared to national benchmark data for predicting their individual grades.
The tables, based on 16 to 18-year-old academic performance between GCSEs and A-level, place Adcote at the top of the table for schools in Shropshire and in the top 50 of independent schools in England.
The school, at Little Ness, near Shrewsbury, welcomes students of all abilities, aged 7 to 18 years, and is extremely proud of its non-selective status.
“In the performance table the progress score for Adcote is 0.43, well above average. This is the score we often refer to as ‘value added’ or, in other words, the extra progress students make against national benchmark data as a result of the teaching at our school,” said Headmistress Diane Browne.
“As a non-selective school, this is the performance measurement that we hold most closely to our hearts as we are passionate about educational inclusivity, recognising that students develop at different times and in different ways.
“Our score placed us comfortably at the very top of the table for ‘value-added’ for all schools in Shropshire, fee-paying or not. Indeed a search of progress scores across all independent schools in England, shows that we are in the top 50 out of 747 schools, a statistic that makes us very proud.”
Mrs Browne said the latest performance table was evidence of the impact that the school was having on the lives of individual students and their futures.

Last autumn Adcote won a coveted award for ‘Academic Excellence and Innovation’ at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) annual awards. It was also shortlisted for two other awards, including the prestigious Times Education Supplement (Tes) Independent School Awards 2020.
